January 17, 2012 (Houston, TX) – Mary Huls, who is running for Texas House District 129 against John Davis in the Republican primary, got off to a rousing start with back-to-back straw poll wins at the Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll event held last weekend in Minute Maid Park (Houston) put on by conservative grassroots activists in the Houston area and across the State.
“These results shows that House District 129 is ready to return to true grassroots conservative representation” said Mary Huls. “I am proud that the activists who came out and supported me have decided to put their trust in one of their own.”
The Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll contained two separate polls. One poll was a state-wide “text” poll for those across Texaswho could not make it to Houstonto vote for Presidential and down ballot candidates. The other poll was a paper ballot reserved for in-person voting at the event. In the “text” poll, Mary beat her established rival John Davis by a margin of 57.9% to 42.1%. Mary did even better with the “in-person” poll held at Minute Maid by polling 68.3% to her opponent’s 31.7%.
When asked why she thinks she did so much better than the incumbent, Mary answered, “I spent the last two days talking to people, listening to what they were saying, and putting forth solutions to the problems facing Texas and our Nation. The people in the district now know who I am and what I stand for. The people ofTexas, and especially District 129, are tired of the same old business as usual politics and are ready for new leadership to fight for their values and principles to restore their government.”
Mary Huls admits that this is just a step in a long uphill climb to unseat one of legislatures long serving Representative. But the fact that the grassroots activists came out so strongly in favor of a conservative challenger, who has demonstrated her commitment to the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and personal accountability as an executive board member of the Clear Lake Tea Party, her organizing on town hall events and rallies in the Clear lake area, and a continual presence in Austin during the 81st legislature lobbying for conservative grassroots causes and issues.
